An abandoned building at 1011 Neill Avenue in Morris Park is causing the community distress.
Neighbors tell News 12 they see children break in regularly to party. They complain of the smell of drugs and loud noise at night.
“There was a young kid sleeping, bundled up in a blanket, sleeping in there because it was pouring rain,” said Pina, a local resident.
People say kids vandalize the property with graffiti and break into the locked doors and fence. Someone comes on occasion to paint and re-lock the doors, but soon after the kids break in again.
“Everybody passes by and complains. When it snows, they don't pick up the snow. It's very slippery,” said Maria Maccagno, the building’s neighbor.
Macagno says the building brings the value of the neighboring properties down. She said no one wants to buy a home next to a dangerous eyesore of a property.
There’s a broken window that drops glass shards on the ground and rodents like to hang out in the yard, neighbors say.
City data shows three 911 calls to that location in the past month. There are also dozens of 311 complaints.
Residents are calling for someone to take over and put the building to good use.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Finance to confirm the building owner and violations issued. We are waiting to hear back.
